I agree with Trish, forgiveness is a good first step. I also try to remind myself that a bad mood or a bad day is just that, not "some inexplicable signal that things will always be bad." I also try to make myself workout, assuming it's early enough…
First, I forgive myself. It's natural to feel down some days, especially these cool, gray ones. Then I allow myself to feel sad and move through it. It usually passes and I begin to get new ideas to follow up.

Last Days of Work
My layoff from Towers Perrin was unusual in a couple of respects. First, they laid off all the freelancers -- the folks without benefits -- and kept all their permanent, more expensive, employees. Which I kind of respect, actually. Second, they didn't just walk us to the door -- they gave us two weeks notice, from March 23 to April 7. April 7 would be our last day in our cubicle, our last paid day.
